Beijing Zoo

This weekend we ventured to the Beijing Zoo that was about an hour away on subway. We were excited to see the animals, especially the Pandas. However, when we got there it was very crowded and people shoved and we couldn't see the pandas at all really. After the Panda House we went to other parts of the zoo and it wasn't as crowded but the conditions of animals and the shelters they were living in and how the people were acting was shocking, sad, and disappointing! Despite all that, we had a good time.

 These Red Deer were huge compared to the deer at home. They were super friendly and came right up to the cage and gave kisses!

 The Hippo was the saddest part of the zoo. There was so much trash and the Hippo ate a Styrofoam cup that a person threw in. Also, people were throwing hard fruit at the hippo just so he would open his mouth like he is in this photo. One of the fruits hit him in the eye. No one was around to stop this madness. We had to leave by that point.

 Here is evidence of the some of the conditions the animals were in. Yes, there is a tiger right in this pile of garbage and the garbage is from people throwing it in from above.

 The camels were also in very bad conditions. Their hair was falling out, they had trash in the pens, and I did not see any water provided for them. Also, the humps of the camels were sideways. I have never seen anything like it. It was sad to look at. :(
